This blog is an eclectic mix of San Antonio, Houston, Austin and other amazing places I can get to. I believe in being a tourist in my own hometown. So many times people will live in a City or Town for years and never ever realize what cools things there is to see and do. My hope is to introduce them to the wonderful things in the place we all call home.

AUEDA Pinatas In The Barrios KING IV Hilario Henry Garcia
Per the official Fiesta Site ( http://www.fiesta-sa.org/events_detail.aspx?id=8 ) this is the 17th year for this organization.
I was unable to get this medal as it went out quickly, but I was able to meet Cleto Rodriguez, a local celeb, who was on their float this year.
But as you can see, I have the medal in my collection.
Even though I was not able to get it from the Barrio Staff themselves, I have an amazing neighbor who shares my love of medals. She and I trade extras. I have told her frequently, if she chooses to sell off her collection, I want first shot at it.
As I shook the hand of Cleto, my Medic proudly (?) told him I was the medal whore of the family.
I did not turn around to see the look on Cleto's face, but I bet it was a puzzled one.
I do encourage you all to click on this link and read their article and support them in the way you see best so they can continue their works.

Fiesta 2012 U.S. Army South Defense & Fraternity
Here is another of the many additions of the Fiesta San Antonio Medal Collection I have.
I can assure you, my collection is VERY small compared to others, but that will be another post.
This is the Fiesta 2012 U.S. Army South Defense & Fraternity Medal.
My research on this medal led me to an online community Military Newsletter.
The online newsletter is about the units that are based on Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX.
As this is a military site, I am not going to go into much detail for obvious reasons.
After I have done further research, and gain the necessary permissions, I will post links if permitted to their
organizations.

The State Association of Texas Pioneers
Most any one who collects Fiesta Medals knows the best day to go is The Thursday before Opening Weekend. That day is marked in Everyone's calendar as Pin Pandemonium.
On this day, in 2013, it was on April 18th, I got to speak to Steve and Karen Rogers.
The excitement and the passion they showed for bringing forth the story of some of the Founding Families in Texas is extraordinary.
I do encourage all of you to check out their Facebook page and their Website. The links are below.
The page is a new site for them and is currently under construction, but I hope you will go back and check often as they get their information and stories loaded on to the new site.
is to their Facebook page.
The Association has been very involved with:
Much of the collection has been moved to the historical city of Gonzales when the Witte absorbed the building into their collection.
I hope someday to get to Gonzales to see more of the wonderful things this group has been able to preserve.
I have enclosed a picture of the 2013 "Honorees" as well at the front and back description of the medal and it's story.
Their first "commercially" sold medal at the Fiesta store dates back to 1998.
Naturally I am very excited to add this medal to my ever growing collection.
I am hoping to get the rest of their series as well.
I am a big History Buff so for this group to distinguish their medals by adding the story of its featured pioneer is unique.
If you can, also become a Member or an Associate Member.
At some point, when I have more of the medal collection updated and completed, I will come back to this post, and see if I can fill in more of the history of this family.
Thank you for stopping in to look at this page and the rest of the posts I have.
Please feel free to follow this blog and to share the pages.

Goodwill 2013 Fiesta Medal
I will post pics when I locate the medal.
In 2013, Goodwill was mentioned on one of the news stations in a contest to pick one of the 4 best medals.
This 2013 medal was on of the finalist.
I will link everything when I locate it.

Vision Works 2013 Fiesta Medal
Vision Works, 175 E Houston, San Antonio, T 78205 did a very cute medal this year.
I will add pics when I find the medal again.
Their medal also came with a $30.00 off a lens upgrade coupon so that is a wonderful time to upgrade your glasses so you can see your medals better.
I did not need this coupon, but, next year, if I get one of their medals, I will be sure to post the coupon with the blog post so if any one want to take advantage of it, please let me know and I will get it mailed to you ASAP or you can always come to the Sights of SA, TX office and pick it up.
I would love to meet a "follower"

2013 Rey Feo Larry Benson Sr. Medal
This is the 2013 Rey Feo Larry Benson Sr. Medal.
Below is the official website for Mr. Benson Sr.
He has been a lawyer, a sports team owner, a car dealership owner, and is very passionate about education.
In 2013 he raised, through is Rey Feo efforts over $1.5 million dollars. His donation went to St. Anthony Catholic School.
If you look closely at the Crest you can see his crown sitting on top of the car.
He also has books signifying his dedication to education.
I don't know for sure, but I am sure the cross is to represent his faith
As I discover more of the story behind this very collectable and attractive medal I will be sure to update this post.
I wish you the Best of Larry Benson Sr.
I appreciate all you have done and will continue to do for Fiesta.
