The State Association of Texas Pioneers

Most any one who collects Fiesta Medals knows the best day to go is The Thursday before Opening Weekend.  That day is marked in Everyone's calendar as Pin Pandemonium.

On this day, in 2013, it was on April 18th, I got to speak to Steve and Karen Rogers.

The excitement and the passion they showed for bringing forth the story of some of the Founding Families in Texas is extraordinary.

I do encourage all of you to check out their Facebook page and their Website. The links are below.

The page is a new site for them and is currently under construction, but I hope  you will go back and check often as they get their information and stories loaded on to the new site.

is to their Facebook page.

The Association has been very involved with:

Much of the collection has been moved to the historical city of Gonzales when the Witte absorbed the building into their collection.

I hope someday to get to Gonzales to see more of the wonderful things this group has been able to preserve.

I have enclosed a picture of the 2013 "Honorees"  as well at the front and back description of the medal and it's story.

Their first "commercially" sold medal at the Fiesta store dates back to 1998.

Naturally I am very excited to add this medal to my ever growing collection.

I am hoping to get the rest of their series as well.

I am a big History Buff so for this group to distinguish their medals by adding the story of its featured pioneer is unique.

If you can, also become a Member or an Associate Member.

At some point, when I have more of the medal collection updated and completed, I will come back to this post, and see if I can fill in more of the history of this family.

Thank you for stopping in to look at this page and the rest of the posts I have.

Please feel free to follow this blog and to share the pages.

Goodwill 2013 Fiesta Medal

I will post pics when I locate the medal.

In 2013, Goodwill was mentioned on one of the news stations in a contest to pick one of the 4 best medals.

This 2013 medal was on of the finalist.

I will link everything when I locate it.

Vision Works 2013 Fiesta Medal

Vision Works, 175 E Houston, San Antonio, T 78205 did a very cute medal this year.

I will add pics when I find the medal again.

Their medal also came with a $30.00 off a lens upgrade coupon so that is a wonderful time to upgrade your glasses so you can see your medals better.

I did not need this coupon, but, next year, if I get one of their medals, I will be sure to post the coupon with the blog post so if any one want to take advantage of it, please let me know and I will get it mailed to you ASAP or you can always come to the Sights of SA, TX office and pick it up.

I would love to meet a "follower"

2013 Rey Feo Larry Benson Sr. Medal

This is the 2013 Rey Feo Larry Benson Sr. Medal.

Below is the official website for Mr. Benson Sr.

He has been a lawyer, a sports team owner, a car dealership owner, and is very passionate about education.

In 2013 he raised, through is Rey Feo efforts over $1.5 million dollars.  His donation went to St. Anthony Catholic School.

If you look closely at the Crest you can see his crown sitting on top of the car.

He also has books signifying his dedication to education.

I don't know for sure, but I am sure the cross is to represent his faith

As I discover more of the story behind this very collectable and attractive medal I will be sure to update this post.

I wish you the Best of Larry Benson Sr.

I appreciate all you have done and will continue to do for Fiesta.

the man was arrogant, rude, late, did not bother dressing up, his wife/gf/ was dressed lovely, had a kind smile for everyone, etc.

elle and I approached him,  I told her she was from South Africa, and had never heard of Fiesta, then I asked if I could have  a medal as well.

He very much gave me the impression that because we were not one of the "pretty" people he would rather not be seen with us.

He also was turning down his own staff for trades.  These guys are the guys that are out there every single day responding to calls, running into burning structures when needed to save Human lives, and their dwelling.

Then mr. arrogance (does not even deserve to be capitilzied.  He pissed me off that much. would not even give his staff a 2nd look.

WOW. THAT IS DISRESPECTFUL, DEMEANING AND JUST PLAIN RUDE!!!!!

I was very sure to tell his wife/ girlfriend (only as I am not officially sure of their status and don't want to offend her) Thank you for sharing him with us tonight (the night of the flambeau parade.)

I am going to be going backover this one to make sure I get it cleaned up before I post it.  I am not always going to post favorable reviews hwere, but I am not going to have them be butt ugly and mean if humanly possible, unless they really Really REALLY Need the eyeopener.

Daquari's D.J. Music 2012 Moving Medal

Some of the coolest collectible medals for us is the Moving ones.

There is so much time and effort that goes into the design, detail, Movement, etc. that you really have to appreciate it.

This one is from a Monarch Medal and Trophy Employee.
He is a very charming man and gifted us these medals on our field trip the day we visited Monarch.

Daquari, if you read this, please let me know your website and Facebook pages so I can get you connected.

The record does "spin" and actually move around.  I tried to portray that in the pictures, but the lighting was horrible.  If I used flash, it washed out the picture were you could see nothing.

I love how the back of his medal actually becomes his business card for his D.J. business.

I look forward to seeing if he has any more medals so I can complete this collection.

Per the usual disclaimer. At this point I am trying to remain ad free.  If you care to donate funds to the sightsofsatx.blogspot.com, I do accept credit card, and PayPal. Please Pm me for the information to donate.

If you have medals that  you would like to donate, I will gladly accept them and link your website and facebook pages to that specific post.  As the blog grows and readership gains, you will get free  exposure for your medal, and your cause.

Monarch Trophy Company 2013

Plum drape, company medal

2013 Hard Rock Cafe Fiesta Pin

The Hard Rock CafĂ© is known world wide for it Rock and Roll Memorabilia Collection.

The restaurant/store on the Riverwalk is no different.

I have personally never eaten there.  I don't know that I ever will.

One of the things they are also well noted for is their pin collections.

People clamor for the Hard Rock Pins. There are so many styles, designs, pins exclusive to certain locations, pins that are company and chain wide.

The pin pictured above is the
2013 Fiesta Medal.
At the cost of $12.00, it is a bit pricey.
In all fairness, I have not been on their website so I don't know what charities, if any they support and contribute too.

I know in an earlier post I stated that I HATE companies that are in this just for the Fiesta Connection so they take advantage of that to deepen their bottom line.

After I get a bit more time, I will be fair, I will go to their site, I will investigate, then I will update this post accordingly.

Battle of Flowers 2013 medal

Battle of Flowers is quickly becoming one of my favorite series of Medals and pins.

It all began in 1891 when  a tourist Socialite from Chicago decided to gather all her sweet "Deb" friends, mount up on horseback and throw flowers at each other.

County Line BBQ on the Riverwalk

I had the chance to go to County Line BBQ on the Riverwalk on 4/28/2013.

Our friend Eleanor was here on vacation to experience Fiesta.  She is originally from South Africa, and has been in Florida for the past year.

She generously offered to take Medic and I to dinner.  We choose to go to the County Line based on Medic's recommendation.

We parked at the private parking lot across the street from the eatery, then went downstairs and waited for seating.  We were placed in a wonderful "back corner" of their tables right on the river.

Then we had one of the best parts of our week happen.

We were greeted by Ward!!

If you have a chance to go there, request to sit in Ward's section. (If he is not there, pout, then stay to eat anyway. :) )

He was as good as the food if not better. He was very knowledgeable about the foods, and gave some excellent recommendations. He then told us, that he won't be ignoring us, but he would come back from time to time to check up on us.

Ward kept to his word. He made sure the bread was hot and fresh, and that the drinks were good and cold.  He allowed us the time to let it all melt and linger in our mouths, then took our order.

Medic opted to get the All you can eat Cadillac Special, Elle chose the 3 rib special and I got the 2 meat combo special.

Then, the reason we fell in love with the place was delivered.  THE Q

The meat was spectacular.  The sauce was brilliant, and coleslaw was chunky, and the potato salad is a great mayo base with a whisper of mustard.

I am so glad we opted to go there.

Ward kept to his word. He came around enough to let us know he appreciated our visit, but gave us enough space to enjoy each others company.

I whole heartedly recommend going to The Country Line on the Riverwalk.

Right now they are a bit out of my price range, but as I get my Avon business built up, I hope to get back to see Ward, and eat there more often. http://www.countyline.com/CountyLineRiverWalk.html

OH, for those of you who use Yelp, check in,  our Chef Surprise was a 1/4 pound of their sausage and it was fantastic.
